There is a huge plastic-free movement that happens in July, called Plastic-Free July.
Instead of completely eliminating plastic (because that's overwhelming), let's work together to reduce it in our lives, both figuratively and literally.
What do I mean by literally and figuratively? I'm glad you asked.
Literally, July is plastic-free July, in which we try to reduce the amount of single-use plastic we use on a day-to-day basis. This allows us to help the environment and challenges us to connect with the Earth on a different level. Figuratively, we want to eliminate the plastic parts of our lives, as in the fake parts. In July, we will focus on embracing our true selves and reducing the fake aspects that we have gotten used to. These fake aspects may be things we have told ourselves that we need to be doing, but deep down inside aren't authentic or helpful. For example, we may tell ourselves that we need to be the perfect host and appear like we have everything under control. In reality, we may really want to have friends over and having them help with something may reduce your stress and bring us all closer together. We will also work on identifying and addressing the limiting beliefs we put on ourselves. Limiting beliefs are statements or feelings that we make about ourselves that restricts us in some way. They are usually fake accusations that we consciously or subconsciously create, and they have negative results.
This month we challenge ourselves to reduce the "fake" in our lives.
Here's how this challenge will work
Every day for 31 days, I will be sharing a way to reduce single-use plastics or figurative plastics from your life. This will all happen inside our Facebook group. If you aren't already a part of our fun Facebook group, here's the link:
When you complete a task at any point in the month of July, you'll earn a point! By completing these tasks, you will improve your quality of life by living more authentically. Also, the person with the most points at the end of the month will win an awesome prize!! If you do not have a Facebook and you wish to participate in the challenge, send me an email at sara@palmtreeyogawithsara.com and let me know so that I can email you the tasks. The more people who participate, the more fun we all have!
"Think about it. Why would you make something that you’re going to use for a few minutes out of a material that’s basically going to last forever, and you’re just going to throw it away. What’s up with that?"
Jeb Berrier, Bag It movie
We can all take imperfect action
Thinking about reducing the plastic in your life can be overwhelming. That's why we aren't trying to completely eliminate it. Nobody's perfect, and I certainly have areas that I can improve on this as well! This challenge is simply meant to make small. easy changes in our daily lives that will help the planet and our mindset. Small imperfect actions by us all adds up to big changes.
