Gain Time in the Morning by Doing Yoga

Yes, you read that correctly.


When I do yoga in the morning before work, I actually GAIN time. Hear me out.


By setting my alarm for just 15 minutes earlier than usual (and actually getting out of bed at that time instead of hitting snooze), I can gain more than those 15 minutes in my day. Here's how you can too:


By doing a short yoga flow first thing in the morning, you can start your day with a clearer mind and a more energized body. Moving your body and getting your energy flowing means that when you go about the rest of your morning routine, you can do so at a more energetic speed and without pausing to yawn. You know how sometimes you wake up and you are so tired that it is hard to get moving? Sometimes that feeling even lasts until you are out the door. A short yoga flow eliminates that feeling of sluggishness even more effectively than coffee. It gets your heart rate up, your blood flowing, your muscles warmed up. All of those things wake up your body so that you can move through the rest of your morning routine faster than if you were still sleepy.


More importantly, the focus and clarity of mind you can gain by doing 10-15 minutes of yoga allows you to know exactly what you need to do that morning to get out the door. This reduces the amount of running around like a chicken with your head cut off. You can focus enough to know exactly what you need to do and where certain items are that you need to grab. When your to-do list normally feels completely overwhelming, yoga will leave you feeling like you can accomplish it.


I find that when I do get up just 15 minutes early to practice yoga, I actually end up being ready for work before I am ready on days that I hit the snooze button and get up 15 minutes later. Can you believe that? And aside from physically being ready to walk out the door earlier, I am so much more mentally prepared for the day.
